services - drain-infection
A tooth abscess can be very painful. That's because an abscess is actually an infection of the tooth. And if left untreated abscesses can lead to very serious problems.
As well as severe, uncomfortable toothache, you might also experience sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures, sensitivity or pressure when chewing, a fever, swelling, a foul taste fluid in your mouth and you might even have difficulty breathing or swallowing.
The dentist will make a small cut into the abscess, allowing the pus to drain out, and then wash the area with salt water (saline). Occasionally, a small rubber drain is placed to keep the area open for drainage while the swelling decreases.
